Our philosophy

Europe United is a pan-European movement that believes European integration is the best means of tackling the current and future global and national challenges faced by the peoples of Europe. We believe that in today's world, the nation state has met its limitations. Global challenges require international solutions and such solutions can only be offered by supranational organisations. European states can only address challenges like climate change, energy security, international terrorism, sustainable development and social cohesion in a collective manner. We believe that the European Union is the right forum to offer solutions to these challenges and we advocate the pooling of European economic and political resources to advance the process of European integration.

Europe United believes in European unity. We envision a united Europe where European states will co-operate to advance the wellbeing of their citizens. We embrace diversity. The success of integration in Europe lies in the regional, cultural, ethnic and national differences of its people. The ability of European states to combine their differences to produce the best possible result is what lies at the heart of European integration, and we strive to protect and promote that diversity. This process of European integration must be securely embedded in the principle of democracy, and Europe United believes in the participation of European citizens in the institutional structures of the European Union. European citizens must be at the heart of EU decision-making. Europe does not need subjects, it needs citizens, and without them the process of European integration faces an uncertain future.

For that reason we believe that decisions should be made as close to the citizen as possible. Europe United champions the principle of subsidiarity and believes that legislation should be made at EU level only in those areas where regions and member states are unable to best address the needs of European citizens.
